RAIN

RAIN

For this project, I developed a sensory taste installation for the Zomeravond in de Kweektuin, an outdoor cinema evening organised by NME Haarlem and Gemeente Haarlem. The evening centers around the film RAIN. 

​

As designer, I translated the theme of rain into something visitors could actually feel and taste. Together with Marjolein Triesscheijn, I distilled yarrow and valerian to capture the earthy, herbal and fresh quality of a summer rain shower. Chef Paul Jonker helped craft the liquid into perfect spheres. Each sphere was served on a shiso leaf, drifting on water, as if a raindrop had just landed and the leaf was still holding its essence.

Visitors moved through the garden wearing headphones, guided by a soundscape and a poetic spoken text about the fleeting, ungraspable nature of rain. At the end of the route, they were handed a floating leaf with a sphere and invited to let the drop pop open in their mouths and eat it, leaf and all.
